Readme for TWL System Updater 1.0c

2008/11/18

Introduction

The System Updater program can update the System Menu (DSi menu) installed on various development hardware (IS-TWL-DEBUGGER, IS-TWL-CAPTURE, and TWL test units) to the most recent version of the System Menu. You can select any marketing region in the middle of an update, so you can also use this program for the purposes of switching the region of the development hardware.

Note: This program supports multiple regions and can therefore run on development hardware for any region.

Notes

Important precautions when using System Updater are as follows.

System Menu Update Procedure (for IS-TWL-DEBUGGER)

The IS-TWL-DEBUGGER System Menu update procedure is as follows.

  1. Turn the power ON to the IS-TWL-DEBUGGER hardware and start the IS-TWL-DEBUGGER software.
  2. Select FileOpen and specify SystemUpdater.srl in the dialog box to run the program.
  3. "The System Updater has been loaded. Follow the instructions on the LCD screen." appears.
  4. Use the TWL controller to select a region from among Japan, America, Europe, and Australia.
  5. A confirmation screen appears with the message: "Do not shut down while update is processing." Press the A Button to start updating.
Never turn off the power before the update has completed. If the update is successful, the message "Update Success!" appears on the top screen.
  6. Turn the power OFF.
  7. Turn the power ON and go through initialization of all of the settings. If the settings have not been initialized completely, the program may not run correctly.
  8. The update is complete.

System Menu Update Procedure (for IS-TWL-CAPTURE/TWL Test Unit)

To update the System Menu for a TWL test unit or IS-TWL-CAPTURE, you must first write SystemUpdater.srl to a TWL Flash Card.

  1. Turn the power ON to the IS-TWL-DEBUGGER hardware and start the IS-TWL-DEBUGGER software.
  2. Select FileOpen.
  3. Specify SystemUpdater.srl in the dialog box.
At this point, do not select the Execute program after loading or Reset TWL-CPU after loading options.
  4. Insert a TWL Flash Card into the IS-TWL-DEBUGGER hardware.
  5. Select ToolsDS Flash Card and write to the card.

This completes writing to the TWL Flash Card.
Next, insert the TWL Flash Card into the TWL test unit or the IS-TWL-CAPTURE hardware and run the program.
Carry out steps 4 to 8 in "System Menu Update Procedure (for IS-TWL-DEBUGGER)" for the rest of this procedure.
